Knowledge Integration for Building Organisational Memories
نویسنده
چکیده
The paper starts with a discussion of the roles an organisational memory (OM) should play and what kind of knowledge should go into it. We then identify two kinds of integration problems. The rst one is concerned with integrating the knowledge bases of diierent knowledge-based systems employed in an organisation into one physically or virtually uniied knowledge base which is to be considered as part of the organisation's OM. The second problem concerns the integration of several representations of the same knowledge with diierent degrees of formalization, ranging from formally represented knowledge via semi-structured text to plain text. This is an issue because formally represented knowledge, e.g. company regulations, often also exists in textual form, and both representations are needed for diierent kinds of tasks. It is argued that the two integration problems mentioned can only be solved by making use of a high-level language whose representation constructs are on the conceptual level (in the sense of Brachman) and which covers all representational needs. We argue that such a language can be made easy to use despite its being extremely comprehensive if the representational ontology underlying its constructs is represented explicitly.

On the convergence of core technologies for knowledge management and organisational memories: ontologies and experience factories
In this paper we argue for the convergence of core technologies for knowledge management and organisational memories. Most of the work reported in the literature regards knowledge management and organisational memories as intertwined areas. However, the technologies used to implement and support them are not treated in the same fashion. Usually, they are conceived, developed, and deployed separ...

A pattern based approach to building Organisational Memories, EKP, has been developed, applied and evaluated throughout a number of EU funded research projects, most recently in the ELEKTRA and HyperKnowledge projects. This paper provides an overview of the evaluation results.

This paper considers an implication of the idea that proposals for integrated care for older people should start from a focus on the patient, consider co-production solutions to the problems of care fragmentation, and be at a system-wide, cross-organisational level. It follows that the analysis, design and therefore evaluation of integrated care projects should be based upon the journeys which ...
متن کاملTowards a Conceptual Framework
This study analyses organisational knowledge integration processes from a multi-level and systemic perspective, with particular reference to the case of Fujitsu. A conceptual framework for knowledge integration is suggested focusing on team-building capability, capturing and utilising individual tacit knowledge, and communication networks for integrating dispersed specialist knowledge required ...
متن کاملOrganisational Memories in Project-based Companies: an Autopoietic View
This conceptual paper draws attention to the autopoietic knowledge production as a potential explanation for the project-based company’s learning and organisational memory. First, the concept of project-based company is described. Second, the epistemological assumptions are highlighted with the purpose to get a better understanding of what is knowledge and how it and organisational memory devel...
